Wild Air - An exhibition of Untamed and Wild Landscapes by contemporary artist - Mark Stopforth

Continuing our Spring season of landscape exhibitions, we are delighted to launch our next solo show at the gallery.

Welcoming English landscape artist Mark Stopforth to our walls for the first time, ‘Wild Air’ features an exciting collection of landscapes and seascapes all embodying the raw beauty of nature.

Featuring a collection of Marks poetry alongside the paintings, there’s lots to explore and enjoy in this stunning exhibition.

About the Artist:

For the past twenty years, Mark Stopforth’s work has been devoted to the untamed and wild landscapes that can be found in the Moors, Fens, Fells and Estuaries of Britain. He has carried the impressions of the sublime in the landscape from his childhood growing up in the Fens of East Anglia - impressions that are still relevant to his work today.

Recently, the vast immersive spaces of moorland, fen and river estuary have consumed his imagination, recapturing those impressions through charcoal, pencil, and oil.

Landscapes and poetry by Mark Stopforth

Inspired by artists including Turner, Frank Auerbach and Cy Twombly, Mark likes to work in oil paint, using washes to allow the colours to bleed and soak into the paper and then overlayed with charcoal, chalk dust and pencil. Drawing is at the heart of each of artwork, a painting starts with pencil and ends with pencil.

Wild Air by Mark Stopforth - Emerald Gallery

Mark’s painting style is fluid, energetic and of the moment. He looks for the ephemeral: the dance of light or a flicker in time which works and is held all for a fleeting moment.

As winter turns to spring, this exhibition captures our beautiful country in all its elements.

Please call in to discover more of this beautiful collection at Emerald gallery.

25th February to 25th March 2023 - Open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 to 5.
