Exhibition Summary:

“As an abstract artist, my creative process is deeply intertwined with and is a reaction to the feelings and emotions evoked by the landscape.

This new body of work, inspired by my training for the London Marathon, captures the essence of my encounters with the landscape over a number of months. Running through sunlit mornings, stormy nights, and everything in between, I am trying to capture the fleeting sensations of freedom, exhilaration, struggle, and joy onto the canvas.

The textures, colours, and forms in my work are not literal representations but rather emotional imprints of the repeated routes, trails, weather and rhythm of my footsteps. Through my mark making, I invite viewers to experience the interplay between the physicality of running and mental escape.

Each painting is a reflection of a moment in time and an attempt to document my journey.”

Artist's Statement:

Amy Huitson, is an abstract painter based in the Chilterns.

“I paint intuitively, allowing my work to evolve as I create. I am passionate about translating the vibrant and ever -changing elements of the landscape and natural world into my art. The shifting light, weather and seasons captivate me, influencing the dynamic and colourful scenes that I create.

I primarily use acrylics and mixed media which offer me the versatility to explore textures and layers. I enjoy the tactile experience of applying paint, experimenting with different colours and texture and seeing how they interact. Each piece is a combination of drawn and painted marks. The compositions evolve through the meticulous layering and building of textures and colours, aiming to encapsulate the essence and atmosphere of a particular place or moment in time. This process allows me to translate the ephemeral beauty of nature into a physical work. The paintings often emerge without a predetermined plan or end goal, embracing spontaneity.

My work is a celebration of the vibrant, layered and textured world we live in and my love of mark making.”

Amy has a First-Class BA Hons Degree in Three-Dimensional Design specialising in Craft from the University of Brighton and an MA in Fine Art specialising in Sculpture from Wimbledon School of Art.
