Exhibiting at Emerald Gallery

As the gallery welcomes emerging, established and professional artists we think it’s helpful to have a go-to sheet with the house rules, hints and tips to preparing your work.

Getting ready for the exhibition

  • Have a think about how would you like your exhibition to look? 

  • Consider props or accessories that you might require for displaying your work?

  • Please discuss your ideas with the Gallery team prior to your show so we can work with you to achieve your desired look and feel.

  • Please discuss any specific hanging or display requirements with the Gallery team before the exhibition.

  • Tabletop plinths are available for 3D work as well as adding height to your display.

  • Emerald Frames has an insurance policy that covers all artwork while in the Gallery.

Getting your work ready

  • All pictures must be framed to a high standard.  Emerald is a busy picture framing workshop and the frames on your art could reflect on us when your work is on our Gallery wall.

  • Pictures must be strung using picture cord securely tied to D-Rings screwed to the back of the frame.  The cord should be strung tightly.

  • Unframed canvases or boards should be strung as above and have neat edges.  We’re happy for edges to show the history of the painting, if that’s how you like it, we just ask that there’s no rough or sharp edges and they’re finished to a high standard.

  • In some instances, small unframed artwork can be secured to the wall by other means, please just let us know what you intend to exhibit, and we can discuss how best to hang it up.

  • You’re welcome to include neatly presented browser work wrapped in cellophane to accompany your exhibition.  A smart basket or box can be a lovely way of displaying these items along the Gallery’s display bench.  Unfortunately, there’s no room for floor standing browser racks.

Getting your work labelled

  • When you sign up for your exhibition, you’ll be issued with an Artwork & Label form to fill in.  This will be used by the Gallery as the individual labels for your work or depending on the number of items in your exhibition it will be used to create a price list.

  • All work should be labelled on the back with the Artist’s name, title of the work, media, contact details (for example your website and email address) and retail price.  We find self-adhesive address labels or paper luggage tags with string work really well for this.

Getting the party started

  • We would be delighted to host a Launch Party/Saturday Preview

  • Our Launch Parties are hosted on the Friday evening before your exhibition opens from 6pm - 8pm, followed by a Saturday Preview on your opening day.

  • The Preview Package includes the following:

    Launch Party

    6 bottles of sparkling wine   

    1 bottle of elderflower cordial

    4 bottles of sparkling water

    Saturday Preview

    Elderflower & mint spritzers

Marketing Your Exhibition

  • With the high-resolution images, you will be asked to supply in the Checking-in document, Emerald Gallery will create a promotional Postcard, Poster and Social Media Square.

  • The Gallery will print and distribute 200 A6 Postcards to friends of Emerald as well as local shops and business.  

  • The Gallery will print three A4 Posters for display on the gallery door and local notice boards.

  • Emerald Gallery asks that you take an active role in helping promote your exhibition. You will be provided with digital copies of your exhibition postcard, poster, and social square for you to share on social media and with your mailing list.  You may also choose to have additional postcards printed - just contact us if you would like to arrange more than 200 to be printed.

Fees

  • The cost to exhibit with Emerald Gallery is £35 - this is the cost price for the printing of the promotional posters and postcards.  An invoice will be emailed to you once your exhibition dates have been confirmed.

  • Emerald Gallery retains 30% commission on art sales, plus VAT on the commission total.  Please take this into account when pricing your work.

  • The Preview Package is £58 with additional bottles of sparkling wine available at £8/bottle.
